About the Artist
Although she is best known for her tranquil landscapes and vibrant florals, local artist, Maryann Pailey, has also been inspired by the lights of the city and the energy of city streets. Whether gazing at a bridge in New York City's Central Park, being captivated by the streets of New Orleans, or the bustle outside a busy Paris cafe, the viewer becomes engaged in the various scenes depicted .
Farms and rural America have also captivated the artist with their rustic charm. And more recently, Pailey has found further inspiration painting the still life, often incorporating vintage pieces into her paintings. She creates her colorful vignettes "from life" carefully choosing to enhance her subject. It is her hope to engage the viewer both visually and emotionally with each painting.
Pailey began her study in oils more than 15 years ago following a rewarding career as an educator. She credits Frankie Johnson, an accomplished artist and teacher, with getting her started in what would become "a second career." Throughout her art career, she has taken many classes and workshops and has had the privilege of studying with many skilled artists.
Maryann's Pailey's original oils appear in private and corporate collections across the U.S. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, as well as several Chicago-area artists associations.
